Undergraduate program – leading to a bachelor’s or engineer’s degree, open to secondary school graduates who have passed high-school leaving exam
Master’s program – leading to a master’s degree, open to those holding a bachelor’s degree
Doctoral program – leading to a doctoral degree, open to those holding a master’s degree or equivalent
Students holding a bachelor’s or master’s degree may enroll in extension /continuing education programs

BIOTECHNOLOGY PROGRAMME OFFERS THE CHOICE OF TWO SPECIALIZATIONS:

Biotechnology is designed to produce graduates who meet employers’ needs and are able to take full advantage of the rapidly changing and expanding arena of biotechnology and commerce.
TYPICAL CAREER ROUTES FOR OUR GRADUATES INCLUDE WORKING AS:
-
biotechnology laboratory technician, microbiologist, biochemist, geneticist, biologist, quality control analyst, medical and clinical laboratory technician, specialist in environmental monitoring
BIOTECHNOLOGY GRADUATES:
-
can progress to MA programmes (e.g. in Biotechnology or Microbiology)
-
get a degree which equips with a variety of transferable skills that are highly attractive to employers
WORK PLACEMENTS:
-
students undertake compulsory 130 hours of work experience in industrial plants, laboratories, research centres
3-month paid internships for at least 35% of graduates MA in Biotechnology (with salary up to the national average level and additional accommodation payment) enable a smooth entry into labor market

professional practices in industrial companies, laboratories, research institutions or others (offer available at the KUL’s Careers Centre) – according to own predispositions, interests and labor market needs

wide range of practices and study visits at modern specialized laboratories of the Interdisciplinary Centre for Scientific Research of the Catholic University of Lublin
KUL’s Careers Centre offers a host of additional opportunities beyond core course content, including volunteering and placements.
SKILLS ECQUIRED BY BIOTECHNOLOGY GRADUATES
PROFESSIONAL SKILLS:
Basic knowledge of biochemistry and biology, laboratory techniques and research tools used in biotechnology.
Practical skills acquired by graduates include:

expertise in the use of laboratory equipment (e.g. automatic micropipette, centrifuge, vortex mixer, spectrophotometer, chromatograph, transilluminator, radiometric test equipment, optical microscope)

ability to analyse chemical, biochemical and biological data
-
сonducting primary cell and tissue culture
-
ability of designing and undertaking simple research experiments in chemistry, biochemistry and biology
-
ability to deploy appropriate practical and presentational techniques and methodologies including data analysis

can express themselves appropriately, using a variety of methods
-
communicate with the professional environment in a foreign language and – depending on the group level – formulates ideas, describes phenomena, reports, exchanges ideas, participates in debates and defends his/her opinions, shares his/her experience and skills with others

use of basic statistical methods and information technologies to describe natural phenomena and to analyse experimental data

ability to draw proper conclusions on the basis of data collected from different sources

ability to describe, explain and interpret basic chemical and physicochemical phenomena
SKILLS FOR SELF-EMPLOYMENT:

knowledge and understanding of basic concepts and principles on the protection of industrial property rights and all kinds of copyrights

ability to use information concerning patent protection
